Pygiopsylla hoplia, Bandicoot flea, also on other Australian native mammals and rodents. Identification of flea species is determined by the shape of the head, presence or absence of genal and pronotal combs, eyes, internal rod on the mesothorax, bristles on hindcoxa etc. This flea does not have a very curved frons, has 2 or 3 long bristles between eye and anterior row of bristles, pronotum has 2 or more rows of bristles and the frontal tubercle is absent. (see Pugh 1985 PhD thesis; Smart. 1943) see bibliography for details.
